Last October the Valve-turners shut off emergency valves on five pipelines, stopping the flow of all tar-sands oil into the U.S. The coordinated, safe shut-off was an unprecedented act of civil disobedience and the most expansive takeover of fossil fuel infrastructure ever attempted in the U.S., stopping 15% of U.S. crude oil imports for nearly a day. The Valve-turners face felony charges and years in jail in multiple states.
